Social Media Experts” will tell everyone and their mothers that they need to have a blog, that connects with their rss feed to tweet out their post which is also connected to their Facebook account so that their Facebook fans will be notified. Not to mention that they should setup TweetDeck and monitor keywords so you’ll be able to participate in the Twittersphere and keep an eye on their brand. Big Whoop!

Jeremy Arnon is one of our angel investors (as is his twin brother Ben). This is his interview with Tristan Walker, Foursquare’s VP of Business Development, as published in the Huffington Post.
So, I e-mailed Dennis (Crowley). I e-mailed him about ten times before he responded. He finally got back to me, said he was happy to chat and asked if I was ever going to be in NY. Of course I said yes, went and bought my ticket that night, flew out to NY and we hit it off. Pushed some of my ideas, he dug it, and a month later I was helping to run Business Development for the company.
I have to admit, articles like these get me fired up. I love it. You’ve got to make your own opportunities. You can’t sit back and wait for things to fall on your lap. You’ve got to hustle and scrap. I love the determination Tristan has. Here are some excerpts of awesomeness from Tristan about joining Twitter and Foursquare:
- After that initial e-mail, I reached out to about 20 different VC’s that I thought might have an in with the company (Twitter). Number 21 happened to be David Hornik who is now a great friend and mentor of mine.

Like I tell people I know, and especially the students I mentor at the UW Business School — “You got to make moves, son!”.
Setting Twitter Free From my Facebook
Ever since I connected my tweets to Facebook, I’ve noticed I’ve tweeted less. OK, tweeting less isn’t really the right way to put it — I’ve second guessed a lot of my tweets because of my Facebook network because it’s a different audience. Whenever you second guess yourself, nothing happens — hence the less tweets.
Now, since I’ve unhooked Twitter and freed it from my Facebook, will you see more tweets from me? Probably not a whole lot, but I think you’ll see more conversations happening. Even with this situation, interesting feedback came about when talking about connecting Twitter with Facebook.
It’ll be interesting to see what happens next. Will I succumb to my laziness and go back to connecting them again? We’ll see, I’ve done it before.

Question: Do you connect Twitter to your Facebook? Why or why not?
Google Turning Your Inbox Into a Social Network with Google Buzz
“What’s so new about this?” was my initial thought when Google Buzz was released. Then it was, “When am I going to get it.” While watching everyone in the free world got it before me, I finally got the notification and I’m beginning to see what this is all about.
I’ve always thought an email service would be a perfect place for a social network, but never knew whether Hotmail, Yahoo! Mail, or Gmail were heading that direction. Think of it — all your real social connections reside in your inbox. They’re the ones you invite to dinner, they’re the ones you send photos to, and they’re the ones you chat with online. That’s where the difference lies. Instead of opening a new site, Google Buzz keeps you where you’re most comfortable — in your inbox. All they do is enhance it with a new layer, a social layer.
Ok, now people are saying this is Google’s attempt to copy Twitter and Facebook — now granted it may seem that way, but who cares? This allows folks who would NEVER sign up for Twitter/Facebook to easily see what the usefulness of it way. I personally would think this is more of similar to FriendFeed, but in the end — who cares? Google is smart leveraging the millions of users it already has because EVERYONE has email.
Face it…Google is trying to turn your inbox into a social network, and I’m personally interested to see where it goes since I think it’s genius.
